Bill,
I'm a Junior at Marian High school in Framingham. Bill, you've come to my school a couple times and your great. You've also brought with you Benny and I think he's so interesting and it's amazing the things he's been through and I enjoyed listening to him. If there is any way that I could contact him, I would love to. I think because he's only 2 years older then me.. its really amazing to me that a person so close to my age has so much experience with things. Since the first time he came with you, I've been drawn to him and the things he talks about. Today was your last time coming to my school and I have to say that everyone wishes that it wasn't. We all looked forward to you coming in and I wanted to say thank you for taking your time to talk to all of us. You're amazing and the stories you have are unbelievable. I've never really done any serious drugs before and after hearing you and Benny I realized that I never want to. I appreciate you helping me realize this. So thanks again for you're time and I'd really love to get in touch with Benny too, if that is at all possible.
-A.B.

Hey Bill,
Thanks again for your help...you do a great job with those kids. I spoke to the lady who I need to send the information to at the court and she said that she needs a letter from you on your company's letterhead if possible stating that I completed 8 hours of alcohol education. The letter also has to contain my birth date (3/18/81) and you can then email or fax it to me and I will send it off to her. My little brother is actually a freshman at Framingham high school and I hope you get a chance to do one of his classes too because I can tell by the looks on the kids faces that you had them engaged and they were getting the point. I'll have to ask him if he's had you there yet.
Thanks,
-Matt

Bill,
On behalf of the Shrewsbury Hoopsters and Jim Diamantopoulos, SHS Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, we would like to thank you for coming in and talking to our parents and players about drugs/alcohol and the topic of substance abuse. You are an excellent presenter and have a very powerful message that directly or indirectly affects every one of our players and families in Shrewsbury. The message is loud and clear and your ability to communicate to the different audiences was very impressive. I received a lot of very positive and complementary comments from the parents after our parents meeting. While the Hoopsters does not have the power to implement a program for the benefit of the school, I have forwarded a message to our Principal and Athletic Director suggesting that we think about implementing a preventative/pro-active program at SHS. I have given them your phone number to get in touch with you for either guidance or direct counseling regarding our situation at Shrewsbury High School.  Well done and thanks again for coming to SHS,
Jim Diamantopoulos
SHS Boys Varsity Basketball Coach
Tony Pawlik
Shrewsbury Hoopsters President

Dan,
At last nights Hoopsters meeting, Jim Diamantopoulos got us a speaker from New Beginnings, Bill Phillips (also affiliated with the MIAA), to talk about substance abuse both for our parents at our Hoopsters meeting and later to address the girls and boys teams (Varsity, JV and Freshman) after yesterdays practice session. I had many parents after the meeting come back to me and say what a wonderful message and a very sensitive and hot topic among the families of Shrewsbury athletes and students. Bill Phillips is a very powerful speaker, he knows what he is talking about, he got all of the parents attention and he held the players attention, even after practice, not an easy thing to do.
You may want to check out the New Beginnings website at nbprograms.com or call Bill directly at
508-416-2115 (office) or 978-580-4367 (cell phone) he is a tremendous resource and may aid you in developing a plan of attack for SHS.

Dear Bill,
Good news. I thought the Grade 5 lesson was excellent. The kids were talking about you after lunch. My "cool" 8th graders also were impressed and wanted to know when you were coming back. 'See you the 19th.

Dear Mr. Phillips and Ryan
”I just want to thank you for your visit because it really made me think of the consequences of drugs. I’m not going to lie and say I have never tried pot before… but now that you’ve told me what it can result in I’ve changed my mind drastically. Though I have used it, I have opted to stop because it is very harmful to your health. Thank you for convincing me that drugs are bad for your body. You’ve made a big impression on me."
(8th grade student)

“Would recommend this program without hesitation.  Informative, exciting, non-stop and right to the point...excellent”
Ralph Olsen
Principal
