Local man writes song as tribute to Virginia Tech survivors

A local man has written a song title “Blacksburg” to raise money for the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund at Virginia Tech.

To describe the song, Tri-Cities resident Jerry Phillips uses a music-review quote “A country-inspired melody with Scots-Irish folk roots of the region and lyrics that reflect the chilling facts and the warmth of hope.”

Phillips said he plans to donate 70 percent of sales to the fund, taking money only for recording, promotion and shipping fees. The song was recorded at the Bristol, Va.-based Classic Recording Studio.

The musicians involved in the project include Kevin Jackson, Tim White, Glenn Harlow, Tim Compton, and Richard Porter. To purchase the song or listen to a sample, please visit: www.yankeesouth.com or www.myspace.com/zazu0002
